Foursquare, the hugely popular location-based game, is now available in 50 more cities worldwide.

What is Foursquare? Say you and I are friends and you see me check in using your Foursquare iPhone or Android app from a local restaurant, such as McDonald's. If you are in the area, you might stop by and join me. Your app uses the phone's GPS to determine your location and suggest nearby establishments to check in from.

There's also a competitive aspect to it. The more you check in from local places, the more "badges" you earn and if you've checked in from a spot more than any other user, you become the "mayor" of that place.

The location-sharing social game has taken select cities around the world by storm and become very popular in the cites like New York and San Francisco where people play location based games with the flavoring of social networking.

You can "check in" to different restaurants, bars, shops and other locations in different cities and share that information with friends. When you check in, a notification is automatically posted on your profile as well as on other social sites including Twitter and Facebook.

Now social media is a viral for everyone. Ever Company and Brands using this medium to grab the attentions of adiance. Twitter and Facebook, myspace and youtube is providing great platform for these type of events and obviously it also supply a great audience to these events.

James Bond actress and model Olga Kurylenko will do a live question and answer session with fans on Tuesday November 24th, 12pm PT on Facebook hosted by ClickCast for promotion of upcoming theatrical release, There Be Dragons.

DBA West developed this application ClickCast where fan can ask questions to personalities, celebrities and brands and get answers by their favorite people via live video cast. ClickCast takes the power of the live press conference and puts it into a social media feeding frenzy.

Recently Shakira did a live stream the debut of her latest music video, Give It Up To Me on Facebook which attracted quite a crowd. Over the course of the ten-minute live stream, Shakira’s video had 95,000 unique viewers during the initial broadcast. And over the course of the last 24 hours, the video has seen a total of over 500,000 views.

Clearly brands and companies not using that much standard TV route we probably would have seen a few years ago.

Plaxo roll out of an integration of Facebook Connect with it's website core. Facebook which is a social network site & Plaxo which helps keep people connected by solving the common and frustrating problem of out of date contact information. Users and their contacts store their information on Plaxo’s servers. When a user edits their own information, the changes appear in the address books of all those who listed the user in their own address books. Because contacts are stored in a central location, it’s possible to list connections between contacts and access the address book from anywhere. By this integration both networks user will get more comfort for their data sharing.

Main benifit from this integration:
  • Share your Facebook content such as photos, videos, links, and events over to your Plaxo Friends
  • Sync your status updates between the two services (in either or both directions)
  • Automatically connect with your Facebook friends who use Plaxo
  • Share a link or post a review in Plaxo & you can also share it over to your friends on Facebook.
By this integration you can leverage the friends list you’ve built up on Facebook to help you get more connected on Plaxo & now you don't have to manually refriend those people

This integration will give benefit to all. It's a win win thing for Facebook, Plaxo & Both sites users

Plexo also planning to add the ability to sign up and sign in to Plaxo via Facebook Connect.

To start over just connect your Facebook Account with Plaxo via Facebook Connect.

Google Friend Connect that lets you join any website and interact with the people there in a meaningful way, regardless of where they come from.Today Google Friend Connect add Netlog which is Europe’s popular social networks. Netlog, which has more than 45 million users worldwide, just implemented Google’s alternative to Facebook Connect, which allows users to sign in using any ID supported by Google Friend Connect. It support Google, Yahoo, AIM, and OpenID and allow to share their activities with their existing contacts.
  • Sign into any of the millions of sites and blogs using Friend Connect with Netlog credentials
  • Use their Netlog profiles on these sites
  • See if any of their friends are already members of the same sites and invite other Netlog friends to join
  • Share their Friend Connect activities with their friends on Netlog
  • Send messages back to their Netlog friends
Google’s integration with Netlog lets users sign into sites and blogs using Friend Connect with their Netlog ID and password. Users can use their Netlog profiles on the site, invite other Netlog users to join Friend Connect, and also share their Friend Connect activity with friends on Netlog. On the back end, Google used open standards like OpenID, OAuth, and OpenSocial as underlying technologies to enabling any other service to plug into Friend Connect like Netlog & because of this Open standards it's far good then Facebook Connect.

Any social network or service, whether they are large or small, regional or global, niche or general audience, is welcome to take advantage of these open standards to integrate with Friend Connect, and participate in an open social web.

Additionally, for sites that are already using Friend Connect, one of the benefits of this standards based model is that they can take advantage of any new service that chooses to join this open ecosystem, like Netlog, without any additional work. The new network option simply appears.

Netlog is growing fast, especially in Eastern Europe and the Middle-East, where it serves as the community portal of choice thanks to its viral nature and extensive language translation program. But even though Netlog is becoming increasingly popular in other parts of the world, this isn’t as big of a win for Google as the integration of a popular social network worldwide like Facebook, which officially has 200 million registered users around the globe. Facebook just hit 307 million unique visitors worldwide in April, with MySpace trailing behind with 127 million unique visitors in April, according to comScore. By comparison, comScore’s worldwide unique visitor estimate for Netlog is 23.8 million.

WeboLobby also having Google Friend Connect at the basic base. we are trying to improve it and Soon we enable all the interactive features of Friend Connect for batter user experience. Mean while do join our community and invite your friends to Join the site.

Friend List let you group friends to more easily share with and view information from specific sets of people. You already can use them to filter your home page, send Inbox messages and manage privacy settings.

Now it comes to Facebook Chat also which provide ways to organize your connections and to control which friends see you online. Maybe you want to be online with your best friends but offline with your work colleagues. You can now do that by using Friend Lists to filter your connections in Chat.

To do that, From the bottom right corner of your browser, go online with Chat and choose which lists you'd like to include in the Chat pane. You can use your existing lists or create new lists directly from Chat. Earlier you had to completely turn off Facebook chat in order to hide your online status from other contacts.

Alongside each list, you'll notice a green switch; when you turn off the switch, you'll be logging off of Chat for that list. Friends in lists that are switched off will not be able to see that you are online or chat with you, nor will you be able to see whether they are online.

In other IM networks like in yahoo chat you can hide your status but you can see your friends status if he or she sharing its online status but in facebook if you hiding your status then you also not able to see which friends are online which seems to me odd.

To create a new list, simply select the "Friend Lists" menu on the Chat pane, enter a new list name, and drag the names of people you want to include into the list or you can create list form your friends page

Facebook Notifications let you know when people take actions on Facebook related to you, so you can quickly know when your friend tagged your in a photo or read a new posting on your Wall. They already are available from your home page or from the notifications icon within the Facebook Chat bar at the bottom of your browser, but from now you able to know i mmediately when your friends are sharing something new with you.

So when you are online with Facebook Chat, entire notifications will appear automatically and in real time above the Chat bar as pop-up alerts. After a few seconds, the notification will automatically disappear, but you'll still be able to see a list of all of your notifications when you click on the notifications icon. You'll also continue to see a count of all the notifications you've not yet viewed, indicated in red.

You can turn off specific types of notifications if you don't want to receive them. When a notification appears, click the "X" to close it. You then will be asked if you want to permanently turn off future notifications of that same type. For example, if you choose to permanently delete a notification about posted links, you won't receive any future notifications about posted links from your friends.

Recently Facebook rolled out live updates for streaming which streams news feeds in real time & now a days all web companies focusing in real time updates.
Many people come to your website from many different countries that involves millions of people from around the world & not everybody know English. Some speak Mandarin, another in Spanish, and yet another in Russian

As you're browsing through the comments that others have left on your favorite sites & have you ever come across a comment written in a language you don't understand? at that time it's hard to read them all in the same language.you can click an option to read them all in the same language so to solve this problem today Google introducing a new feature for the Google Friend Connect comments gadget that will help to address this problem: translations.

Now, if you see a comment in a foreign language, click on "Translate" in the lower left corner of the gadget and select your language. All comments that aren't written in your language of choice will be translated and highlighted in yellow. If you want to revert back to the original text, simply select "No Translation" from the same menu. Google is using Translate API for translation.

Friend Connect users who already have the tool installed on their blogs or sites do not have to upgrade; Google is pushing out the new features with the same bit of code.

Watch the video below to learn more about the comments gadget:

After introducing the new home page & Friends Page, Facebook focused to create feeds and updated stream real time because Your News Feed, in the center of your home page & that offers you an updated stream of what's happening with your friends & family.

Beginning today, that stream is going live. The stream now updates automatically and gives you the option to view new posts with a prompt at the top of the page immediately below the Publisher. Before today you needed to refresh your browser to see the most recent posts from your connections since logging in.

Facebook is rolling these changes out gradually, so they will be available to everyone soon.

Recently YouTube rolled out it's RealTime version & FriendFeed also having same kind of functionality
Starting today, for all Meebo users with a Meebo account you’ll get personal links, something like Twitter Profile links. Meebo call it the Buddylink. It will look like http://meebo.com/add/yournamehere

Now you can share your personal Buddylink in email, Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, Blogs, Website, bumper sticker & T Shirts. with one click you’ll be able to join each other’s buddy lists and start chatting instantly. Of course, you still have total control over who can see you online and who’s on your buddy list. By this its very easy to chat with others so now it's an easy way to get more people you care about just a click away. It's personal link for instant chat.

Buddylink Page will Look like this to your Guest

The downside is, To use Meebo your friend or the person who wanna chat with you, Should have a Meebo Account. I don't know why meebo don't put up Single sign on like OpenID because it already support mostly all IM services like Yahoo, Google Talk, Facebook Chat, ICQ etc
With Help of Google latitude user can share location with friends. Yes till now you can able to share the location with friends only but now Google developed some application that allow to share the location publicly with anyone.

Till now user can use Latitude via mobile and iGoogle that lets you share your location with your friends Only, not with others who are not your friends and people were asking "What if I want to share my location with people who are not my Latitude friends?" To answer that, Today Google launch some application which enables user to share the location with anyone. Well it sounds cool. Let's see what application Google develop?

Google Talk Location Status (beta)

Share your Google Latitude location as your status message with all of your Google Talk or Gmail chat contacts, including anyone that can already chat with you so it will Automatically updates your status message with your current city's name as you move. What it means?

Simply if you're in New York then in your Google Talk, it will show the city name which is New York as a Status message.

But here, Your current city is shared with all of your Google Talk or Gmail Chat contacts openly so even if you hide from some of them in Google Latitude it will not work. For example, if you hide your location from a specific friend in Latitude, that friend may still be able to see your location in your Google Talk or Gmail chat status message if you have your location status enabled.

don't wanna share your location?

What if you don't wanna share your location? What if you don't wanna let your mom know that you're in pub? So to stop sharing location in your status message you have two options.

  • Or Clear your status message or change it to another saved or custom message to temporarily stop sharing your location as your status message.
To start using it again, you'll need to select it from your recently used status messages or use the "loc:on" shortcut.

Google Public Location Badge:

The Google Public Location Badge lets you publish your Latitude location on your blog or website. You can choose to show just the city that you are in or you can have your device's location detected automatically, using GPS, Wi-Fi, or cell tower ID, which provides a more specific location. You can also use a KML or JSON feed to create a custom experience in your own application. you can receive an email reminder that you are sharing your location publicly with your badge. You may choose to receive emails one, never, weekly, or monthly.

Here also your location will be shared publicly and you will not be able to control who can or cannot see it.

Don't wanna share your location?

Here also your location will be shared publicly and you will not be able to control who can or cannot see it. here the case is different. To stop sharing location the only way is that you disable the badge entirely or change its settings by going to http://www.google.com/latitude/apps/badge

But Once you create and publish the embedded badge HTML code on your website, anyone with access to your website could copy the code elsewhere so that your location is still accessible even after you remove the code from your site so to stop publicly broadcasting your location, you must go back to http://www.google.com/latitude/apps/badge and disable it as I already said and you may also want remove the code or feed from your site or application.

According to Google, These applications are only available in the US for now, but they'll soon be ready for all the same languages and countries that Google Latitude supports.

Today facebook introduce new Friends Page to make it easier for you to find and organize your connections so you can better filter the content you see from them on your home page and manage your privacy settings. If you don't see the new page just yet, don't worry. it will be available to everyone soon.

When you visit the Friends Page, you will first see tools that make it simple for you to find and connect with all the people you care about. The easiest way to find friends on Facebook is searching your email address book. Just enter your information, and you'll be able to find all the people you connect with via email on Facebook, too. or you can import your Buddy list from AIM and Windows Live Contact or upload a CSV file.Check out suggestions of people or celebrities and organizations you may want to connect with or find friends by searching their name, email address or instant messenger accounts. For me Suggestion of people is hardly works, Mostly it shows the list of people whom I never met! ! I don't know how it works.

As Facebook already provides Friends List, A list or a group of Friend so you can create list of your school friends, Workmates, Family anything that suites you It will very useful to organize Friend. A Swiss woman has lost her job after her employers spotted she was using the Facebook website when she had claimed to be too ill to use a computer

The unnamed woman was suffering a migraine and had told her employer, Nationale Suisse, she needed to lie in a darkened room.

The company said its discovery that she was also using Facebook destroyed its trust in her and prompted her sacking.

But the woman told a Swiss newspaper she was innocent. The woman, who is from Basle, said she had been accessing the internet on her iPhone while in bed. She said she did not believe the company's assertion that a colleague had inadvertently noticed her using Facebook, accusing it instead of spying on her.

She said the company had created a fictitious Facebook persona which become "friends" with her, allowing the company to monitor her online activity.

Her suspicions were raised when the "friend" suddenly disappeared after she was fired, the woman told 20 Minuten daily.

But the company says it followed a simple logic: that those who are well enough to use Facebook with a migraine are well enough to work with a migraine.

It is not the first time Facebook has been involved in a workplace controversy. Some companies have banned it altogether, while others have fired employees over statements they make about work while online. Company are facing too many data leak so to prevent this many company forcing their employees not to use social tools.
