The Meebo Notifier for Windows can now alert you when you get new emails for your Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, and AIM accounts.

Whenever you get a new IM, the notifier will show a popup notification, just like, it does for emails, and will also create an icon in the system tray next to the Notifier icon (as shown below) so that you can easily access your email accounts. Just click on a mail notification or its corresponding icon & it will take you right to your mail web page.

How does this all work?

meebo is using an open source library called libpurple on their servers in order to connect you to your IM networks. They’re also relying on libpurple to get notifications for new mail from your email accounts. Meebo check the mail servers periodically, so there are chances for delay of a minute or two for your Gmail notifications.

There is other minore update for notification like added an option for the Notifier to connect to Meebo via https. Connecting via https basically means that all the network traffic between your browser and the Meebo servers is encrypted & your communication is secured from hacker.

Other change is , added support for Proxy. For all the office workers out there who connect to the internet via a proxy, the Notifier should now be able to auto-detect your proxy settings.

Starting today, for all Meebo users with a Meebo account you’ll get personal links, something like Twitter Profile links. Meebo call it the Buddylink. It will look like http://meebo.com/add/yournamehere

Now you can share your personal Buddylink in email, Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, Blogs, Website, bumper sticker & T Shirts. with one click you’ll be able to join each other’s buddy lists and start chatting instantly. Of course, you still have total control over who can see you online and who’s on your buddy list. By this its very easy to chat with others so now it's an easy way to get more people you care about just a click away. It's personal link for instant chat.

Buddylink Page will Look like this to your Guest

The downside is, To use Meebo your friend or the person who wanna chat with you, Should have a Meebo Account. I don't know why meebo don't put up Single sign on like OpenID because it already support mostly all IM services like Yahoo, Google Talk, Facebook Chat, ICQ etc
Instant messaging or chat from your web based Inbox is a old concept now GMail and Yahoo is already providing browser based chat platform. Gmail also rolled out voice and video chat capabilities via web Interface but in this Hotmail was so behind the bar, however, now Hotmail rolled out similar features for their users.

User of France, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Spain, and the U.K. already enjoying web based chat and Now company also release a second faze updates for user of United States, Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, the Netherlands and Norway. The company says, The feature is available through Hotmail and also through the people page that lists a Windows Live user's contacts.

Web based chat is already in Gmail, yahoo and now Google also rolled out new updates with xmpp open standards which enables user to chat with other networks like AIM, Yahoo etc. Meebo is already providing this too

Microsoft's Hotmail site now lets people send and receive instant messages.

I do proffer to chat via desktop interface because its fast and provide more features like file transfer but web base chat can be helpful when you are away from your computer, using your friend's computer , In cafe or having a new system but not yet configured and you need instant help from your friend via IM.
