With Help of Google latitude user can share location with friends. Yes till now you can able to share the location with friends only but now Google developed some application that allow to share the location publicly with anyone.

Till now user can use Latitude via mobile and iGoogle that lets you share your location with your friends Only, not with others who are not your friends and people were asking "What if I want to share my location with people who are not my Latitude friends?" To answer that, Today Google launch some application which enables user to share the location with anyone. Well it sounds cool. Let's see what application Google develop?

Google Talk Location Status (beta)

Share your Google Latitude location as your status message with all of your Google Talk or Gmail chat contacts, including anyone that can already chat with you so it will Automatically updates your status message with your current city's name as you move. What it means?

Simply if you're in New York then in your Google Talk, it will show the city name which is New York as a Status message.

But here, Your current city is shared with all of your Google Talk or Gmail Chat contacts openly so even if you hide from some of them in Google Latitude it will not work. For example, if you hide your location from a specific friend in Latitude, that friend may still be able to see your location in your Google Talk or Gmail chat status message if you have your location status enabled.

don't wanna share your location?

What if you don't wanna share your location? What if you don't wanna let your mom know that you're in pub? So to stop sharing location in your status message you have two options.

  • Or Clear your status message or change it to another saved or custom message to temporarily stop sharing your location as your status message.
To start using it again, you'll need to select it from your recently used status messages or use the "loc:on" shortcut.

Google Public Location Badge:

The Google Public Location Badge lets you publish your Latitude location on your blog or website. You can choose to show just the city that you are in or you can have your device's location detected automatically, using GPS, Wi-Fi, or cell tower ID, which provides a more specific location. You can also use a KML or JSON feed to create a custom experience in your own application. you can receive an email reminder that you are sharing your location publicly with your badge. You may choose to receive emails one, never, weekly, or monthly.

Here also your location will be shared publicly and you will not be able to control who can or cannot see it.

Don't wanna share your location?

Here also your location will be shared publicly and you will not be able to control who can or cannot see it. here the case is different. To stop sharing location the only way is that you disable the badge entirely or change its settings by going to http://www.google.com/latitude/apps/badge

But Once you create and publish the embedded badge HTML code on your website, anyone with access to your website could copy the code elsewhere so that your location is still accessible even after you remove the code from your site so to stop publicly broadcasting your location, you must go back to http://www.google.com/latitude/apps/badge and disable it as I already said and you may also want remove the code or feed from your site or application.

According to Google, These applications are only available in the US for now, but they'll soon be ready for all the same languages and countries that Google Latitude supports.
