There's a scam going around on Facebook around their credits program, mostly tied to the company giving away free credits, according to reports.

For those that don't know, Facebook Credits is virtual currency you can use to buy gifts and virtual goods in many games and applications on Facebook. You can purchase Facebook Credits using your credit card, PayPal or a mobile phone, which of course, is why scammers target such programs.

A quick scan of Twitter will show you various tweets about the free Facebook Credit they've received. However, if you search on Facebook for "Facebook Credit" you'll come across a slew of event pages where some of the event pages include the recognizable Facebook logo along with the yellow colored coin, signifying free credits.

According to the event page details, users will get free "Facebook Credits" if they'll follow the instructions on the page, which includes sharing the scam pages with their friends and contacts over Facebook.

To be safe, do not follow the instructions such as these or others that might be fishy on event pages. The Credits program is easily attacked because of its popularity with games like Farmville, so user beware.

Best thing a user can do is check their various banking accounts and change their Facebook password immediately.

As of right now, there hasn't been any official word from Facebook on this issue.

Now social media is a viral for everyone. Ever Company and Brands using this medium to grab the attentions of adiance. Twitter and Facebook, myspace and youtube is providing great platform for these type of events and obviously it also supply a great audience to these events.

James Bond actress and model Olga Kurylenko will do a live question and answer session with fans on Tuesday November 24th, 12pm PT on Facebook hosted by ClickCast for promotion of upcoming theatrical release, There Be Dragons.

DBA West developed this application ClickCast where fan can ask questions to personalities, celebrities and brands and get answers by their favorite people via live video cast. ClickCast takes the power of the live press conference and puts it into a social media feeding frenzy.

Recently Shakira did a live stream the debut of her latest music video, Give It Up To Me on Facebook which attracted quite a crowd. Over the course of the ten-minute live stream, Shakira’s video had 95,000 unique viewers during the initial broadcast. And over the course of the last 24 hours, the video has seen a total of over 500,000 views.

Clearly brands and companies not using that much standard TV route we probably would have seen a few years ago.

It's Official, Now you can share your Facebook activity over Twitter. Till now you Facebook Pages user will able to do that by using the third party apps and official Twitter App for Facebook which pull the status update from Facebook pages over to your Twitter account but now you can share it via the Facebook only. This will only link Facebook Pages to Twitter, not your individual profile.

Public figures, musicians, businesses and organizations of all types who've created Facebook Pages often want to share a status update, a photo or an event with as many of their supporters as possible. Celebrities may want to share personal news or charities may want to put out calls for help to both their Facebook fans and their Twitter followers, all at the same time.

Today, Facebook add these new changes to all Facebook pages so now Facebook Pages admins able to share the activity over to Twitter. The main difference is that if any page user using any App like Twitter then also the admin only able to share the status update but not the other updates & things like Photos, Events, Links, Notes.

If you manage a Facebook Page, you now will be able to decide whether to share updates with their Twitter followers, and you also will be able to control what type of updates to share over Twitter.

To do that just go to this page and make sure that you have the admin rights for the particular page. By clicking the twitter button it will redirect you to Twister's oAuth page where you need grant access for your Twitter account to Facebook. After doing this App will ask you that which updates you wanna share with Twitter like Status updates, Links, Photos, Events, Notes. Select the option according to your needs. that's it ! see the screen shots.

( Get Started by link your Twitter account with the Facebook Page)

( It will show the Facebook pages for that you got admin rights, Link to Twitter)

( Select the option that which Faebook Page activity you wanna share over Twitter )

You already can upload photos from your mobile phone via MMS or through Facebook applications on your iPhone, Blackberry and other devices. Now Facebook added the ability to upload photos and videos by e-mailing them to your Facebook account.

(Upload Photos and Videos to Facebook via Email)

To do that, Visit the Facebook Mobile page to get your personal upload email. This is a unique email address where you can send photos and videos from anywhere you have email access.

After you attach your photos or videos to an email, you can include a subject line that will be used as the caption for the photos or videos you upload. If you're uploading more than one photo or video in the email, the captions will be the same for all of them. You can always edit the captions later by logging into your Facebook account.

( Share photos on Facebook on immediate bases)

You can send as many photos or videos as you want in a single email, within the file size limits of your email provider. As soon they'll get the email, then your files will be uploaded to ur Facebook account.

Just rememeber, the photos you send to facebook via email will go to the "Mobile Upload" photo album by default and follow that album's privacy settings. you can edit your settings for Mobile

So now by this new email option, you will be able to more easily share photos and videos anytime you want from anywhere by just using a email id on immediate bases, remember every account will get a special email ID

Su.pr is a URL shortening service from StumbleUpon similar to Bit.ly or TinyURL, and dozens of other services that let you create short url in few characters that you can share in an email, Twitter, Facebook status update, or anywhere else.

But there are somethings that Su.pr make it different from other service. First, like Bit.ly, Su.pr also offers analytics that will give you information like how many times users have clicked on your links. And secondly, Su.pr is run by web site discovery service StumbleUpon so every time you shorten a link, you also add a web-based StumbleUpon toolbar to the link that lets users vote on the story and submit it to the StumbleUpon website. so by this you're not only getting short url with good analytics but also exposes your content to StumbleUpon's nearly 8 million users!

Beyond that it also provides personal API key like Bit.ly so you can use it in third party service. and soon you'll able to post your own urls with su.pr!!

Until, the service was only available to beta testers. But now Su.pr dropped the beta label, and Anyone can use Su.pr to shorten a link. it also integrate your Sumbalupon account. if you want to post updates directly to Twitter and Facebook using Su.pr, you'll need to enter your login info to do that.

Everyone has a name, but some people are known by more than one. I 'm one of them. Many people do have nickname. Some people are popularize in collage by some funny name or some people known by some name tag in work place. It happen to many people, it's not our official name but sometimes our friend and family recognized by that name.

Sometimes people do change names like if you have a maiden name, a different married name or are otherwise known by more than one name at that time people do try to search you by that name and it's possible that because of different name you want appear in the search, or sometimes people confused by your name because they do not know you by the name you're using but know you by the nick name? possible.

Like wise my name is Aniruddh but my close friends call me "Ani". In work place people do call me Andy. My mom called me by different Nike name and same time in my family some people called me with a different nick name.

Till now, I could only show one name in my Facebook account. This made it difficult for all of my friends to connect with me. I've even received messages from old friends asking who I was before they would approve my friend request because they didn't recognize my name, even though the profile photo looked familiar to them.

So to secure your real identity, and clear out the confusion. Facebok added option to add your nick name. Now you have the ability to display such alternate names on Facebook. Previously you could associate another name with your account, so friends who knew you by that name could find you in search results. Now, you can further choose to also display your alternate name so it is visible on your profile, in search results, in friend requests and on every other places on the site. It also will appear in parenthesis alongside your primary name

( Add your alternate name or nickname in Facebook)

To enter an alternate name, go to your "Account Settings" page here. Check the box for displaying your alternate name if you also want it to be shown on the site.

International user also able to add their alternative names in in different languages such as chines, Farsi and etc.

You can now have your YouTube account automatically update your Facebook friends, Twitter followers, and Google Reader shared items when you upload a video. YouTube add OAuth support for twitter accounts, Connect your Fecebook Account via Facebook Connect and also add to your Google Reader shared items.

Find all these link to your YouTube Upload page where you can connect your existing Twitter, Facebook and Google Reader account. YouTube called this feature AutoShare which share your upload instantly to these social services.

But remember to do that your Google Account needs to be linked to your YouTube account in order to use AutoShare. Sorry but i could not able to find a link that how can we merge the both accounts. If any one know that please let me know.

For Facebook URL, the count down is over and people are rushing to secured their username that easy to remember for friends & family instead of some random number like "id=592952074."

so how you gonna take your user name & which username you should take?

Well to help you out this post will give you some tips for choosing the Facebook user name.

Now to take a username first of all you need to login to your Facebook profile. after the log in go to http://www.facebook.com/username

now you already logged to Faebook so it will provide some predefine username lake your firstname your last name and firstname.lastname where you can choose the username according to your needs. or you can set your own username if it's available

Now point to be noted before taking a username.

  • Facebook usernames will be available in basic text forms
  • You can only choose a single username for your profile and for each of the Pages that you administer.
  • Only one username is allowed per Page.
  • Your username must be at least five characters in length
  • Only include alphanumeric characters (A-Z, 0-9), or a period or full stop (".")
  • Once you have claimed a username by clicking the “Set Username” button, it is not possible to edit it
  • It is not possible to transfer your username to a different account on Facebook.
  • When an account is removed from the site, its username will not be made available to other users for security reasons.

Now what if your name is short then five character?

well you can user your first and last name with a dot format (firstname.lastname). If this format is not available try for reverse format (lastname.firstname) or you can use your firstname and lastname initial.

Here one thing to remember that Facebook provide a universal username format so for Eg: if you your name is Mark Jons, and if you are taking MarkJ for your Facebook username then if anybody try to go for

http://www.facebook.com/markj
http://www.facebook.com/m.arkj
http://www.facebook.com/ma.rkj
http://www.facebook.com/mar.kj
http://www.facebook.com/mark.j
http://www.facebook.com/m.a.r.k.j

It will land to the same page. so this is something you need to know before you go for your username. here dot(.) is useless unless you try to take firstname.lastname as a username which look decent.

Now if some also confused that if everything if available as a username then what should they take? Means, should go for first name or should go for last name or should go for firstname .lastname.?

According to me if all username available to you and you have a choice then should choose your firstname as a Facebook username, if its available.

why?

well I mark one thing, My Facebook profile is http://www.facebook.com/aniruddh. Now before the dedicated url, my profile want appeared in top ten list of Facebook search. if anyone try to search for "Aniruddh" but of course by searching firstname and lastname in Facebook search box you can get the accurate profile listing. so by taking a firstname you can hit the top list for your name search.

If you wanna add me As a Friend ,Of course you can but in Message just write WeboLobby Reader.

So keep all the things in mind and grab your identity that will be on Internet for a lifetime.

Like in Twitter user able to get a url that can be land to his or her twitter profile page but like wise in Facebook it is not possible to get a url that attached to our profile. The URL was just a randomly assigned number like "id=592952074." but that soon will change. Facebook announced the forthcoming availability of usernames for user profiles and Facebook Pages. Now you can have a personalized URL for your Page (facebook.com/yourname). Beginning at 12:01am EDT Saturday, June 13, 2009. user you'll be able to choose a username on a first come, first serve basis for your profile and the Facebook Pages that you administer by visiting www.facebook.com/username/

Facebook also put a countdown clock to that page so all can get the detail for remaining timings so don't worry about the time zone just see the remaining time & calculate it according to your time.

But why you need a personal url?

Well, Usernames allow public entities to easily promote your presence on Facebook with a short URL .This username can be used in your marketing communications, company website and business cards. When your friends, family members or co-workers visit your profile or Pages on Facebook, they will be able to enter your username as part of the URL in their browser. This way people will have an easy-to-remember way to find you.

But Facebook also add some conditions to it like Once you have claimed a username by clicking the “Set Username” button, it is not possible to edit it, or to transfer your username to a different account on Facebook. Additionally, when an account is removed from the site, its username will not be made available to other users for security reasons. Only one username is allowed per Page. so think carefully about the username you choose for your profile.

Facebook usernames will be available in basic text forms, and you can only choose a single username for your profile and for each of the Pages that you administer. Your username must be at least five characters in length and only include alphanumeric characters (A-Z, 0-9), or a period or full stop ("."). see the screenshot below and get the idea.

Another thing is If you signed up for a Facebook Page or user profile after May 31, you may not be able to sign up for a username immediately.

If you keep the rights for a trademark or other protected name & If you want to ensure as a rights holders interested in preventing their trademarks from being registered as usernames just contact Facebook here.

Remember, After 12:01 a.m. (EDT) on Sunday, June 28, 2009 all can sign up for username so just add up this date in your Google calender or reminder service so you don't miss the event. Now I'm really wondering that there are 300 million Facebook user and mostly many do have common names so it will be a competition for getting the names. what will happen if all people named Mark come to gather in same time for getting a name? at that time, to whom system will assign a user name?

well, just keep the finger cross for your user name. if your name is most common then just use a unique combination, if desire username is not available. I suggest just create a list for your user name. create a combination of your first and last name or may be add a middle initial and put the name in a way where most desire name should come first so if you're not getting that name you can search up for another name according to your list and by this you can save time and there are good chances to get your name.

Don't be the last to know about what's happening with your friends, family or co-workers just because you're away from your computer. You now can subscribe to receive text messages of your friends' status updates directly from their Facebook profiles. This feature was the before, but Facebook user need to subscribe his friends status updates from the" settings" but now you can do directly from profile page.

To get started just click on the "Subscribe via SMS" link below your friends' profile pictures to get their latest news while you are on mobile. You'll get SMS from 51555. You can also comment on your friends' status updates directly from your phone by replying to the text messages you receive. You can even subscribe to mobile updates from the Facebook Pages of your favorite celebrities, public figures, businesses and organizations. Isn't that great?, Now stay updated on the go.

If you already have Facebook Mobile activated for your phone or device, then you will begin receiving the text message updates after confirming your subscription. If you haven't yet set up Facebook Mobile, you will be taken through a series of steps to activate it before receiving text messages.

While Facebook does not charge for this service, your mobile-service provider's standard text messaging rates will apply so be sure to check with your provider. You also can stop receiving text message status updates from your friends and connections at any time.
To do that, there are three ways

  • Reply directly from your mobile phone with "unsubscribe,"
  • Return to a friend's profile and click the "Unsubscribe from SMS Updates" link, below your friends' profile pictures
Facebook is offering this service in 18 countries service providers like the U.S., U.K., India, South Africa, Indonesia and New Zealand, There is a screenshot besides, find all 18 countries

If your country is not in the list, don't worry you can visit the mobile site m.facebook.com, or get the from device-specific applications for iPhone, Blackberry, Palm, Windows Mobile, Sony Ericsson, Widsets, INQ

Facebook recently announced that it support Open ID so now Facebook user can use third party username for login this is a big step from Facebook. As of now Google, AOl, My Space all support as a Open Id Provider. means Google is happy if you're using Google Account to login other OpenID enable websites but it's not happy to let you in with others Open ID.

Facebook is the first big web company which allowing user to let you in via other OpenID instead of your Facebook credentials. To do that First off all you need to linked your Open ID accounts with Facebook. Once you do that then you can login in Facebook via the OpenID that you liked with Facebook.

To get started just login to your Facebook account, After that go to Settings > Account Settings > a page will open says "My Account", Now go to " Linked Accounts" where you can select different OpenID providers like Yahoo, Google, AOl, Vidoop, MyOpenId, Verisign PIP, or any OpenID you can linked with your Facebook Profile. Just grant access to your Facebook account.

That's it, After this step user can auto login with OpenID, For Example you already loged in to your Google Account & you open up a link which opens in Facebook. Usually you need to log in to Facebook Account to do that but if you already Linked your Google Account with Facebook then it will directly open up and it will skip the Facebook login. It's fast and secures.

Remember Auto Login feature is not allow via Yahoo & Myspace. You can link multiple Open ID but you can link only One Google Account, Yahoo Account, My Space Account so link the account which you frequently use.

Plaxo roll out of an integration of Facebook Connect with it's website core. Facebook which is a social network site & Plaxo which helps keep people connected by solving the common and frustrating problem of out of date contact information. Users and their contacts store their information on Plaxo’s servers. When a user edits their own information, the changes appear in the address books of all those who listed the user in their own address books. Because contacts are stored in a central location, it’s possible to list connections between contacts and access the address book from anywhere. By this integration both networks user will get more comfort for their data sharing.

Main benifit from this integration:
  • Share your Facebook content such as photos, videos, links, and events over to your Plaxo Friends
  • Sync your status updates between the two services (in either or both directions)
  • Automatically connect with your Facebook friends who use Plaxo
  • Share a link or post a review in Plaxo & you can also share it over to your friends on Facebook.
By this integration you can leverage the friends list you’ve built up on Facebook to help you get more connected on Plaxo & now you don't have to manually refriend those people

This integration will give benefit to all. It's a win win thing for Facebook, Plaxo & Both sites users

Plexo also planning to add the ability to sign up and sign in to Plaxo via Facebook Connect.

To start over just connect your Facebook Account with Plaxo via Facebook Connect.

Users on Digg used to be able to share stories on Digg with other users right on the site, a feature called "Shouts". This thing has been changed from now on. Shouts which was a digg own feature replaced by Facebook and Twitter. Now, Digg's users can only email stories, or share them on Facebook or via Twitter.

Friend List let you group friends to more easily share with and view information from specific sets of people. You already can use them to filter your home page, send Inbox messages and manage privacy settings.

Now it comes to Facebook Chat also which provide ways to organize your connections and to control which friends see you online. Maybe you want to be online with your best friends but offline with your work colleagues. You can now do that by using Friend Lists to filter your connections in Chat.

To do that, From the bottom right corner of your browser, go online with Chat and choose which lists you'd like to include in the Chat pane. You can use your existing lists or create new lists directly from Chat. Earlier you had to completely turn off Facebook chat in order to hide your online status from other contacts.

Alongside each list, you'll notice a green switch; when you turn off the switch, you'll be logging off of Chat for that list. Friends in lists that are switched off will not be able to see that you are online or chat with you, nor will you be able to see whether they are online.

In other IM networks like in yahoo chat you can hide your status but you can see your friends status if he or she sharing its online status but in facebook if you hiding your status then you also not able to see which friends are online which seems to me odd.

To create a new list, simply select the "Friend Lists" menu on the Chat pane, enter a new list name, and drag the names of people you want to include into the list or you can create list form your friends page

Facebook Notifications let you know when people take actions on Facebook related to you, so you can quickly know when your friend tagged your in a photo or read a new posting on your Wall. They already are available from your home page or from the notifications icon within the Facebook Chat bar at the bottom of your browser, but from now you able to know i mmediately when your friends are sharing something new with you.

So when you are online with Facebook Chat, entire notifications will appear automatically and in real time above the Chat bar as pop-up alerts. After a few seconds, the notification will automatically disappear, but you'll still be able to see a list of all of your notifications when you click on the notifications icon.
