Mozilla rolled up new version of Firefox. Firefox 3.6.4 mainly contains stability updates which protect against sudden crashes due to plugin failures which cause crash. New updates provides uninterrupted browsing for Windows and Linux users when there is a crash in the Adobe Flash, Apple Quicktime or Microsoft Silverlight plugins.

If a plugin crashes or freezes, it will not affect the rest of Firefox. You will be able to reload the page to restart the plugin and try again.

Firefox 3.6.4 also fixes several security and stability issues found in previous versions of Firefox 3.6:

A complete list of changes for this version is listed at the Firefox site. Firefox Beta version 3.6 is up ahead for transforming in a stable version. Meanwhile Firefox 3.6 Beta 3 has been rolled out with many bug fixes and updates.

The third beta of Mozilla's open source Firefox 3.6 browser is now adding fixing 83 bugs and added several new features too. From 83 bugs fixed, 13 ware critical.

This version is built on Mozilla's Gecko 1.9.2 Web rendering platform, which has been under development for several months and contains many improvements for web developers, add-on developers and users. This version is also faster and more responsive than previous versions, and has been optimized to run on small device operating systems such as Windows CE and Maemo.

The latest update is intended to prevent crashes Firefox closing code injection directly to the directory.

What Does This Mean?

Add-ons are the standard mechanism for extending the browser's capabilities. In addition, though, there has historically been another way to do it. Third-party applications installed on your machine would sometimes try extend Firefox by just adding their own code directly to the “components” directory, where much of Firefox’s own code is stored.

There are no special abilities that come from doing things this way, but there are some significant disadvantages. For one thing, components installed in this way aren’t user-visible, meaning that users can’t manage them through the add-ons manager or disable them if they’re encountering difficulties for proper browser run. What’s worse, components dropped blindly into Firefox in this way don’t carry version information with them, which means that when users upgrade Firefox and these components become incompatible, there’s no way to tell Firefox to disable them. This can lead to all kinds of unfortunate behavior: lost functionality, performance woes, and outright crashing – often immediately on startup.

So In Firefox 3.6 beta, Mozilla is closing this door. Third-party applications can still extend Firefox via standard mechanism, like add-ons and plug-ins, but the components directory will be for Firefox only.

Also:

  • Users can now change their browser's appearance with a single click, with built in support for Personas.
  • Open, native video can now be displayed full screen, and supports poster frames.
  • Improved JavaScript performance, overall browser responsiveness and startup time.
  • Support for new CSS, DOM and HTML5 web technologies.
Unfortunately, support for some of the best new Windows 7 features have been removed from 3.6 at this point, meaning no tab previews, jump lists, and download progress in the task bar.

If you're willing to work on unstable version of Firefox and you're an early adopter eagerly waiting to try your hands on then go ahead and download the beta version.

This beta is available in more than 60 languages - get your local version.

Are you exited about the new version? Miss your third-party apps? Let us know in comments.

If you're using Firefox version 3.0.10 then It's time to upgrade it. Firefox rolled out a new version 3.0.11. This version add new security patches and stability fixes and fixing up a bug that had prevented some extensions from working properly.

You can apply latest updates , In your browser, just go to Help > Check for Updates > & soon you'll get the update with the version displayed 3.0.11. Just download the updates and restart the browser to apply the updates or get the fresh copy from the Mozilla website.

May be possible that some add on will not able to work properly until they compatible with this latest version.

This updates include following notes:
  • Fixed several stability issues.
  • Several issues were reported with the internal database, SQLite, which have now been fixed by upgrading to a newer version.
  • Fixed an issue where, in some specific cases, the bookmarks database would become corrupt. (bug 464486)

Mozilla Labs has launched a new project called Jetpack that could drastically change how users interact with Web sites and manage third party add-ons.

By this Project, developers can create code packages that can be use on and off without the end user having to restart their browser. This is something that cannot be done with Firefox's current add-ons system, this is similar like Greasemonkey, which allow users to pick and choose which scripts are active. This is a very big step for Firefox which will boost the browser share for sure. It can give users more control over what they see on a site, and how they can interact with its content.

This is the user side benefit we're talking about so what kind of benefit for developers? It solves another annoyance by letting developers create code that isn't outdated or broken every time the browser gets a major update. This is a problem that has plagued Firefox add-ons for years, and forces developers to make small tweaks or changes to get their extensions up and running even if they've long since stopped working on a particular extension. Under this system, whatever Jetpack add-ons you have installed will still work & this is the great relief for developers.

Under this method early stage addons available like UnAd, This Jetpack addon can remove unwanted scripts, images, and iframes with a pretty UI for turning the feature on and off. It uses a blocklist created for AdBlock Plus. another one is Email Notifier, Status Bar Demo, Bespin Integration, Image Swapper Demo & many more

Mozilla's "Web application as a desktop application" service Prism has rolled out version 1.0. On Friday, the company released it with its own standalone site, and an updated API that lets developers tack on Prism-specific features to their Web applications.

Prism let you run your favorite website or web app as a desktop application, like you can run Gmail as a standalone application or run WeboLobby as a standalone News reader application. the best thing is you're getting a separate processes for each and every application you're running so in event of crash or memory hog you just have to close only the cozing application, not like entire browser, in FireFox.

The updated version includes several new features, like tray icon notification support, and application-specific settings such as fonts and proxies. Automatic updates like in FireFox browser. You can also choose a custom icon instead of site's favicon. you're also now able to clear private data like user names and passwords, along with any browsing history. same as FireFox providing right now. I was, however, only able to assign a custom icon successfully with the Prism app itself, not via the FireFox addon. Not a huge problem, since you can always select a new icon from your shortcut's properties dialog. New version comes in two flavors, FireFox browser add on or standalone application that you need to install first into your system.

FireFox release new beta version 3.5b4. in this new FireFox 3.5b offering many changes over the previous version like supporting new web technologies, improving performance and ease of use, and adding new features for users.

In New version mainly awaited feature is revealed private browsing. This feature already in Internet Explorer 8 and Google Chrome where user can switch to private browsing session. It provide "Private Browsing," which allows you to browse the Internet without FireFox retaining any of data about which sites and pages you have visited.

there may be times when you do not want other users of your computer to see or access such information. For example, perhaps if a friend or family member shares your computer, you would prefer for them not to be able to see what websites you've visited or what files you've downloaded at this time Private Browsing can be handy. You can do this job by clearing the private data in FireFox stable version but this feature difference is that Private browsing delete the browsing history automatically and do not store any data that provides more security and privacy. Data like Visited pages, Form and Search Bar entries, Passwords, Download List entries, Cookies, Web cache files etc.

another feature is Control the Smart Location Bar results with special characters. As you know that FireFox Smart Location Bar works as a internal search engine when you type something into the address bar( Mozilla call it Smart Location Bar) the feature is nice but if you type Mozilla it will pull data from titles & bookmark tags, history but with too many bookmarks its too hard to find a web page at that time you can use this feature and restrict your search and according to your terms Mozilla will show you more perfect results.

In this version you can watch a video in your browser without needing any plugins or external media players. It means that may be you ll not need flash plug in. I'm using word "may be" because yet we need to test this particular feature.

Version 3.5b4 has ability to provide Location Aware Browsing using web standards for geolocation. Geolocation lets websites know where you are in order to bring you more relevant information, or to save you time while searching. It’s about making the Web smarter, more intuitive and easier to use.

For example, if you’re looking for pizza restaurants in your area, a simple search for “pizza” will bring you the answers you need…no further information or extra typing required Or, if you’re mapping out directions to get somewhere, FireFox will know where you’re starting from so all you have to do is tell it where you want to go. Google also providing same feature.

In this version may be some add ons not able to work. You can run the browser in safe mode to avoide creshes. Old Beta user can update the browser by going Help > Check for Update > & download the Updates or Download fresh copy of version 3.5b4 download from here, remember it's a beta.
