The Meebo Notifier for Windows can now alert you when you get new emails for your Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, and AIM accounts.

Whenever you get a new IM, the notifier will show a popup notification, just like, it does for emails, and will also create an icon in the system tray next to the Notifier icon (as shown below) so that you can easily access your email accounts. Just click on a mail notification or its corresponding icon & it will take you right to your mail web page.

How does this all work?

meebo is using an open source library called libpurple on their servers in order to connect you to your IM networks. They’re also relying on libpurple to get notifications for new mail from your email accounts. Meebo check the mail servers periodically, so there are chances for delay of a minute or two for your Gmail notifications.

There is other minore update for notification like added an option for the Notifier to connect to Meebo via https. Connecting via https basically means that all the network traffic between your browser and the Meebo servers is encrypted & your communication is secured from hacker.

Other change is , added support for Proxy. For all the office workers out there who connect to the internet via a proxy, the Notifier should now be able to auto-detect your proxy settings.
