Microsoft’s Live Labs team has introduced an experimental prototype application codenamed “Pivot”.

"Pivot" is an application developed on a .NET client. It's aimed at simplifying interactions with massive amounts of data. It's kind of a visual search which works in a data set. It links to the mass data deeply and give a much batter targeted data stream to user.

Example: If you have 50,000 magazine covers and you're looking for only music covers, it will sort out only music covers. In particular, if you're looking for only female pop star covers, you can do that, too. It will search much deeper to give a much more accurate result. It can be linked to any kind of data and represents it to you in visual form.

It's much better seen than described in words, just like the search itself. Just check out the Microsoft video (Silverlight required) and afterwards head over to the Pivot site to absorb all the technical details:

This prototype is currently available by invitation only from Microsoft’s download site.

Update: I'm having 10 Beta invites for Giveaway!, Just comment here and you'll get the invites :)
