As you know, if you use Gmail chat you'll see status indicator with green, orange, and red bubbles which indicates if your friends are online, offline or busy.

Now Gmail adds up a new feature with it. From now on, it will also show you Green Robot. It's a new experiment in Gmail Labs, and you'll see a robot icon next to people who are currently using Android phones.

So seeing a green robot means your friend available for chat via Android, Seeing a orange robot means your friend is online via Android but currently away. and if you see a red robot, that's not an angry robot, it's just your friend is online with Android but currently busy. So now you know who is online from their Android devices on Gmail chat.

When your chat buddies log into regular Gmail, their presence icons will revert to the traditional red, green, and orange status bubbles.

These icons can help you decide whether to tailor your conversation to the type of device that your chat buddy is using. For example, when you know the guy on the other end is using his Android phone, you may decide to send shorter, more concise chat messages.

This new feature is limited to Android devices only so if your friend is using chat via BlackBerry, iPhone, Pre or any other mobile devices then it will not show the robot icon but will show the regular glowing bubbles. Addition to that if your chat buddy logged into both Regular Gmail chat and Android chat then also the regular glowing bubbles will be shown.

To get started just logon to your Gmail go to Settings > Labs > and browse or search for green robot!
